Working together
Pioneering neuropathy care
About Us
Since 2013, Dr. Fiona Streckmann and Dr. Maryam Balke, have passionately been dedicated to help patients with polyneuropathies. At that time, Dr. Streckmann had already gained many years of research experience. Her focus is to analyze how specific exercise therapies can be used to target or even prevent the symptoms of this condition. Dr. Balke, with her extensive clinical-neurological experience in dealing with polyneuropathies, was frustrated by the lack of therapeutic options and searched for alternative options for her patients. In doing so, she was also intrigued by the potential of physical activity to target specific neurological symptoms.
Independently, both expressed the desire to create truly effective support for patients, as there are currently hardly any treatment options available which causes a diagnostic dilemma both for the patient as well as the health care practitioner, trying to maintain quality of life whilst maximizing therapy to ensure the highest chance of survival. This shared goal, ultimately brought us together and we have been combining our expertise ever since to create meaningful research.
Our study results confirmed our hypothesis: Specific! Exercise can be medicine. We can improve balance and gait for instance, enabling patients to stand and walk more safely, as well as reducing pain and discomfort.
We are deeply committed to sharing our insights with as many affected individuals as possible, so they can begin training early in the course of their illness and then integrate it into their daily life at home. This high unmet need led to the idea of developing a digital health application to empower patients and support them with their training at home. Our goal is not to replace therapists, but rather to complement their valuable work.
When the idea first began to shape in 2022, we met Melanie Oesterle-Glaeser, who was enthusiastic about our project and supported us from the very beginning. As an experienced business/finance and operations expert with a solid background in medical devices and startup development, she complements the team, bringing the necessary business expertise to make this heartfelt project a success. Together, we aim to make a real difference in the lives of patients with polyneuropathies.
